Participation in sports related activities develops confidence as a result of learning and mastering new skills. Public speaking, debates and other presentation based activities help students significantly in self confidence and trust to address a large gathering through practice. Through this confidence, students learn to address issues in academic and non academic environments.

Arts, Music and Drama

Creativity provides a space to safely navigate one’s identity and avoid being judged as ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. Activities such as painting, singing, dancing and theatre give my quiet students a safe escape to be seen and appreciated and maybe, one day, feel ready to join other school activities.

Leadership Roles and Group Projects

Being appointed to monitor the class, or house captaincy or being a project leader, encourages personal responsibility. Group work builds social confidence and helps teenagers to develop their social skills through the balancing act of collaboration and goal attainment.

Quizzes, Clubs and Competitions

Academic clubs, quizzes and inter-school competitions provide to students for safe structured boundaries to practice; each attempt, win or loss, regardless of the outcome, builds trust in one’s self that effort and practice bring reward.
